Lysosomes are organelles with a single-layer membrane sac like structure inside cells. Lysosomes are metaphorically referred to as the "enzyme warehouse" or "digestive system" inside cells. Lysosomes contain many types of hydrolytic enzymes that can digest large particles such as food or pathogenic bacteria ingested by cells into biomolecules. The residues are excreted from cells through efflux, decomposing many substances. They can also digest certain aging organelles and biomolecules trapped in lysosomes during cell differentiation. The pH value inside the lysosome membrane is about 4.5-4.8, allowing digestive enzymes to work under acidic conditions. In the cytoplasm outside the lysosome, the pH value is around 7.2, and the lysosome membrane maintains this pH difference inside and outside the lysosome by pumping H+from the cytoplasm.
