Cyanine 5 has a wide range of applications, not only for labeling biomolecules, but also as a derivatization reagent for some small molecules. Compared with other fluorescent reagents for labeling aldehyde groups (such as FITC, TRITC, etc.), its reaction selectivity is higher.
Cyanine5 Hydrazide is a near-infrared dye commonly used for in vivo imaging of small animals, in addition to labeling peptides, proteins, and oligonucleotide amino groups. Because it avoids the visible light region that many substances absorb, the absorbed near-infrared light penetrates deeper into biological tissues, and the excited fluorescence is less affected by the background of biological tissues, so it can generate signals in deep tissues. Especially in the range of 700-900 nm, the absorption of water and hemoglobin is minimal, and near-infrared light can penetrate up to 15 cm deep into tissues. At the same time, these dyes also have biological safety that UV dyes and isotope labeling cannot possess. Cyanine 5 (Cy 5) is the most commonly used near-infrared fluorescent dye.
Cyanine 5 Hydrazider requires a cosolvent, but due to its weaker hydrophobicity than Cyanine 7, it is more widely used. Li Ji Biotechnology provides Cyanine 5 Hydrazide in the form of Triethylammonium salts, which is more soluble than other potassium salt forms of Cyanine 5 Hydrazide from other companies. Under the same optical properties and reactivity, it has better solubility. Conjugated Hydrazide hydrazide is often used to label aldehyde groups in biomolecules, while Maleimide is often used to label thiol groups.
Cyanine 5.5 Hydrazide has broad-spectrum properties similar to Alexa Fluor 680 Hydrazide and DyLight 680 Hydrazide, and can be used as a substitute for them.
