Cyanine 5.5 has a wide range of applications, not only for labeling biomolecules, but also as a derivatization reagent for some small molecules. Maleimide is often used to label thiol groups, and Cyanine5.5 Maleimide has a higher reaction selectivity compared to other fluorescent reagents that label thiol groups, such as FITC, TRITC, etc. Cyanine5.5 Maleimide is a near-infrared dye commonly used for in vivo imaging of small animals, in addition to labeling peptides, proteins, and oligonucleotide amino groups. Because it avoids the visible light region that many substances absorb, the absorbed near-infrared light penetrates deeper into biological tissues, and the excited fluorescence is less affected by the background of biological tissues, so it can generate signals in deep tissues. Especially in the range of 700-900 nm, the absorption of water and hemoglobin is minimal, and near-infrared light can penetrate up to 15 cm deep into tissues. At the same time, these dyes also have biological safety that UV dyes and isotope labeling cannot possess. Cyanine 5.5 (cy 5.5) is the most commonly used near-infrared fluorescent dye.
Cyanine 5.5 Maleimide requires a cosolvent, but due to its weaker hydrophobicity than Cyanine 7, it is more widely used. Li Ji Biotechnology provides cyanide 5.5 Maleimide in the form of triethylamine salts, which is more soluble than other companies' potassium salt forms of cyanide 5.5 Maleimide and has better solubility under the same optical properties and reactivity.
Cyanine 5.5 Maleimide has broad-spectrum properties similar to Alexa Fluor 680 Maleimide and DyLight 680 Maleimide, and can be used as a substitute for them.
